The Tri-Lateral was established to set safety priorities, monitor the process of the safety priorities, and make recommendations to ensure representation and a unified message. The members of the SST include the following:

  • Representatives from Southern Company.
  • Representatives from associate labor unions.
  • Representative from associate independent labor.
  • Representatives from associate contractors.

Leadership and Cultural Engagement

The Southern Safety Tri-Lateral (SST) Leadership and Culture Engagement Committee, made up of two Co-Chairpersons and members appointed by the SST Subcommittee, performs the principal function of screening recommendations and issues prior to being formally considered by the full SST, with a focus on the core values of safety relative to Employee and Leader Engagement.

The Southern Safety Tri-Lateral (SST) Communication and Awareness Subcommittee is made up of two (2) Co-Chairpersons and members appointed by the SST. The subcommittee primarily functions to provide and contextualize information about the activities of the SST.

The Southern Company Safety Tri-Lateral (SST) Training Subcommittee, made up of Co-Chairpersons and members appointed by the SST, perform the principal function of a training interface for the SST activities.

Industry Best Practices

The Southern Safety Trilateral (SST) Industry Best Practices (IBP) Subcommittee, made up of two Co-Chairpersons and members appointed by the SST Subcommittee, performs the principal function of identifying and leading the system-wide implementation of safety best practices. Aggressive and consistent delivery and implementation of cutting-edge best practices will result in reduced loss and fewer incidents and injuries for Southern Company employees and all contractor employees supporting Southern Company. It will be the responsibility of the member companies to be open to the introduction of and fostering the implementation of these identified best practices. The subcommittee will not only be looking at worker risks and solutions but liability risks, and property protection (builder's risk) and other risks. Additionally, the components of HP (Human Performance) will be incorporated as applicable to improve safety performance.

The Southern Safety Tri-Lateral (SST) Rules and Procedures Subcommittee is made up of two (2) Co-Chairpersons and members appointed by the SST, performs the principal function of interface for SST review and maintenance of safety procedures.
